I spearheaded the annual Ridgewood Park cleanup With Boy Scout Troop 560. During the cleanups, we picked up trash, spread mulch, removed brush and invasive species throughout the woods, and painted the shelter twice, stained the picnic tables, painted the playground equipment, and established the flowerbeds at the entrance to the park. For two years I procured grant money from The McGraw-Hill Companies that allowed us to purchase tools for the annual cleanup, and other necessary supplies that will be used for years to come. We were also able to purchase and install a dog valet at the entrance to the play area with the generous grant. All of these improvements incentivized the township trustees to take back the duties of maintenance of this and the park in Sunbury Woods.

I used to be an Assistant Scoutmaster, and have helped with the many Eagle Scout projects undertaken in that time as well. Included in this list are: the bridge built over the drainage ditch in the woods; the stairs leading from Buenos Aires into the park; the path markers and map showing the established paths throughout the woods; benches strategically located throughout the woods; moving the path away from Spring Run at the east end of the hiking path; removing invasive species so the wildflowers would return in the lowlands; and creating a peaceful rest area at the trailhead. These projects have saved the township money in supplies and labor, and have added to the value of our properties.

The HRAA Executive Committee appointed me as the Beautification Coordinator. This is due to the ownership I had taken of our park and entrance signs. Now, my main duty is to coordinate the annual Plant Swap, where friends and neighbors in the area bring their over-abundance of plants to share. (Bringing plants isn't required to aquire those that others have gleaned.)
