I am all for keeping up the infrastructure, but it would be a nice courtesy to have some notice beforehand that the entry to your driveway would be dug up and access blocked to your home.  Is this customary?

Did anyone know this construction was going to take place on Paris Blvd. N. today?  Also, does anyone know how long this condition will exist?  Sorry...hopefully I am not sounding too critical.  Like I said...it is nice that the work is being done...but it would be nice to know that you may have to park some distance away beforehand.

Thank you.

Hi Blair,

I did not know about the construction, nor do I know how long it will take place, but I am glad to see it.  Yes, notification would be nice.  More than that, communication about such things is even better.  Maybe it is posted on the Blendon Township website?

I meant to ask Jim Welch at the HRAA meeting last night, but we were distracted with the updates on the OAW rate increase, so I forgot.  It seems a call to Linda Harter, Township Administrator, could answer your questions.  I assume you have already checked the Blendon Township website for answers.

When you find out, please let us know, and I will try to do the same.

Thanks,

Pam Clegg

Hi Pam, Blair's wife here.  I searched high and low and this is all I was able to find regarding these repairs:

Also Blendon Township was preparing to replace 2500 linear foot of curb this year.

We not only lost access to curbside parking, but to our own driveway as well.  We received no notice whatsoever.  We were able to speak with a few of the workers Thursday morning and were told that it will "probably be 5 to 7 days before we are allowed to use our driveway again".  If we hadn't run into them, we'd still be in the dark.  I would have thought we would at least get a flyer stuck to our front door that says "sorry we had to bust up your driveway, here's when we hope to give it back to you."

In addition, the backhoe destroyed the pipe from our sump pump to the curb and had we not asked them what they planned on doing about it, they would have ignored it.  They kept trying to convince us that the pipe didn't lead anywhere.  I've been there over 7 years...I know where my pipes lead.

We are fortunate that the church behind our house has agreed to let us park in their lot until the construction is finished.  Of course this entails climbing over our fence to get home.  (God bless my neighbor for fashioning a make-shift ladder for me so I can climb over with my dignity intact).  If I had come home Wednesday night with a truckload of groceries only to find out I'd have to carry them the length of a football field and heave them over a fence, I would have a few choice words for the township.

All in all, we are grateful for the improvements, but the lack of communication has got us dumbfounded.

Thanks,

Hi Marnie,

So, are they going to fix your pipe?

I asked Jim Welch if he knew about the Paris road work - he did not - but since this post began, I know he has forwarded this information to one of the trustees.  The trustees should hear about these things and respond accordingly.

Communication is so important.

Once again, the people at Faith Covenant are true neighbors.

Thanks for all you do,

Pam
