I can't begin to say how very excited we were when we heard about the change over to Rumpke. We had been borrowing one of my parents' bins and transporting our recycling up to Olde Mill every week.

What seems kind of sad to us is that, despite having curbside pick up of our recycling, a large number of our neighbors in Huber Ridge do not seem to be taking advantage of a service we all pay for anyway.

It is very easy. We don't have to sort anything or remove labels. Personally our bins, because we kept one of mom's 5 bins, are just outside the door between the garage & the house. This way all we have to do is open the door & throw in the bottle, box or can. It is amazing how much our trash has gone done. We easily fill at leat one bin every week. A lot of things you would not normally think of as being recyclable can be recycled. Baby food containers, snack containers, lotion bottles (I try to rinse most things out), most of your junk mail.... Why would you not do it?!?!?

I am certainly not opposed to recycling, but will admit that I haven't been using the bin much and haven't filled it enough to take it to the curb yet.

You have a garage,  I don't.  I refuse to keep the bin indoors and I just don't have enough room to have a second kitchen trash can for recyclables.  So, I've got to put this fire engine red bin in my back yard somewhere.  I'm sorry but it' just too junky looking.  So for now, the bin is hidden, and unused.

Okay so I finally came up with a method to separate our recyclables from the rest of our trash without having to keep the red container on our deck.  I reviewed Rumpke's list of what is recyclable and what is not and any special instructions they have for us.

Did you know they expect us to wash everything out?  To quote their flyer "Please rinse all bottles, jars and cartons and remove all container lids."  Have they seen my water bill?  $111.00 this month!!!!  I can't afford to wash my trash!!!!  Besides, isn't it a bit bassackwards to waste one resource to renew others?

Soooo...I will start separating my recyclables, but I will not be rinsing anything.
