Increased Fire Risks During Winter Storm As weather forecasters are predicting dangerous amounts of snow and ice for much of the area, Westerville Division of Fire Chief Bernie Ingles reminds residents that risks for home fires during and after these winter storms can increase. Many of these fires are preventable, and citizens can reduce these risks of becoming a fire casualty by identifying potential hazards and following simple safety tips. "Winter storms can wreak havoc on our daily lives. Besides making travel difficult and interrupting electric service, the storms also pose an increased possibility of residential fires," says Chief Ingles "The use of candles, heating sources and makeshift cooking methods can significantly increase the chances of a fire occurring. By following some basic safety tips, you can protect yourself and your family when severe winter weather strikes." (If the link below does not work, go to City of Westerville website).
