The article below is exciting news: Sidewalks added to Westerville Road overhaul Monday, March 7, 2011 04:21 PM By JENNIFER NESBITT ThisWeek Community Newspapers Sidewalks will be built along a section of Westerville Road, thanks to the combined efforts of officials from Blendon Township, Franklin County and the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission. The community plan created by Blendon Township residents with Franklin County planners last year included a recommendation to construct sidewalks along the road and make it more pedestrian-friendly. MORPC will provide $2.8-million in federal dollars to fund sidewalks on both sides of Westerville Road from state Route 161 to Dempsey Road. Because the Ohio Department of Transportation already had begun preparations for the planned overhaul of Westerville Road, Franklin County planners teamed with MORPC to have sidewalks included in the road reconstruction, according to Franklin County planner Ben Weiner. Ben Weiner of Franklin County and all his staff should be commended for their work on the Blendon Community Plan.  They spent hours meeting with our community, facilitating well-executed meetings, providing and receiving feedback, and producing a professional document that apparently was a catalyst in convincing ODOT that sidewalks were truly needed.

Thanks to all residents who took the time to attend the meetings and/or provide the feedback that helped communicate the needs.  YOU made a difference.

Finally, thanks to our trustees, Bryan Rhoads, and service director for attending and participating in these meetings.  It may not have happened without your support.

The work and results are yet to come, true, but I am confident they will come - soon, I hope.
