Hi Katie-
I was reminded of this during a conversation with a neighbor-it's hard to explain, but if you use less water during December, January and February, it will help save you some money during the summer-below is from another link on our site here-but I have been told to start trying to limit your usage beginning in November (not that all of us aren't already trying to do so!). I hope this helps and I'm sorry for the rude awakening on the water bill. I'll see if I can find any other helpful hints....
Water Usage In Winter Reaps Summer Savings!
Remember Ohio American Water will charge no more for our summer Wastewater usage than the average we use during December, January and February.
OAW let us know about this benefit on our bills two years ago but they are no longer reminding us about it. Why? Because they hope we’ll forget about it! In case you haven’t noticed waste water usage costs $8.8358 a cu. ft. while water costs $5.74120 a cu. ft. And they charge the same cu. ft. for each. The theory is we use more water in the 5 months of Summer and because they charge the same cu. ft. for each, saving now will establish a lower usage of waste water in the summer. AND watch your bills! Last year they estimated high usage on several of our February bills! Clever
