Hi,
I'm sort of new to the area, at least this is the first time I have lived in a township so I've been trying to read as much as I can about the local elections. The police levy is a renewal so I understand that it is not an increase to my taxes and I think I am pretty ready to make a decision on that one. I'm still reading about the other levys that aren't specific to Blendon Township but will be on the ballot for all people in Westerville.
The race I have questions about is the trustee one. I get that there are 2 candidates for one job and then another one who doesn't have an opponent. I can't really say I understand what the job of a trustee is and what they do. Could someone enlighten me?
I've been getting campaign literature on my door and I've been reading that, but I've also been reading things in those small local papers. To me the 2 candidates seem pretty different and one probably is a better fit for the job but I have questions about the lady running for this office. If she was married to one of these trustees for a whole bunch of years and worked side by side as her materials say, why would her signs have been printed in such a way that they violated the law like the This Week paper said? Wouldn't she have known what was right for a campaign sign and what wasn't because of working with her husband? It just doesn't make sense to me. Also, my husband works in IT and the same company where I work and we've been married 16 years, but I don't think I could ever say I could do his job because we are married, so that doesn't make sense to me either.
As far as that other candidate, the one who has fought the water increases and has the job now. I have read about them and our water bills are kind of high compared to what I've paid in other places where we've lived but I think our bills are a little lower than our neighbors because there is just the two of us. Anyway, I dont belong to the neighborhood civic association and I probably should to be more informed so I don't know him either, just from his literature but he seems to have more specific information on his materials as far as what he's done and what he wants to do. I just would still like to know what trustees do so I can be sure I make the right decision based on the campaign stuff floating around. Oh, and by the way, all these signs in the yards are an eyesore so I for one will be glad for the election so they come down.
