PUCO approves Aqua Ohio rate increases

Water customers in several central Ohio’s townships soon will be paying more.

The Public Utilities Commission this afternoon approved the new rates that will bring in an additional $4.2 million a year for Aqua Ohio, formerly Ohio American Water. That’s 10.85 percent more than current operating revenues.

For customers in Franklin County, that means those using 4,500 gallons a month will see water bills jump about 13 percent, or $5.76. For wastewater, they’ll be paying $2.18 more, or about 4 percent.

Aqua Ohio serves residents in parts of Blendon, Madison, Norwich, Perry, Prairie, Sharon and Truro townships.

The rates will take effect once the utility company files some final paperwork. That could happen in the next few weeks, said Matt Butler, PUCO spokesman.
