Greetings All, Laughing

I am new to the board and was browsing this morning as my family is fixing to be moving into the Ridge. I do have some concerns after reading through your posts. There are many posts that show concern over the water company. Do we have to go with this provider Aqua? Why hasn't there been a vote or something to choose a new water company? When we lived in Dublin our water bill was never over $50.00. Should I expect a huge bill? Also, we currently have AEP and our bill has never been over $115 but the avg I see on this board is outrageous. Is there something about the area that we should be worried about high bills? We always have our a/c set at 79 and it seems to be keeping us cool/warm. We would open the windows if it got too bad. When should we expect trash to be picked up? Do they supply the trash can or should we purchase one? I saw a recycle bin at the house we are getting and I assume that is the same company as the trash pick up. Is that true? So many questions, there should be like a welcome to your new neighborhood, here is all the info you need package or something...wouldn't that be awesome in a fantasy world! Anyways. I look  forward to joining your neighborhood and participating in your discussions. Thank you for the info.

Hello, K. Abels!

You are wise in checking on utilities and the like prior to moving into an area.  Yes, you would be required to use Aqua as your water/sewer provider, and unless you conserve water and usage, you most certainly can expect a high bill - ours is the highest around.  We have been told that our township officials are working on a solution to this problem and I believe they will.  Meanwhile, be sure to install low flow toilets, low flow shower heads, purchase a water conserving machine, consider rain barrels if you plan to landscape, etc.

Regarding your electric, we have AEP so your bill should be comparable to what you had unless your home has (will have) poor insulation and drafty windows.

Rumpke is the trash provider.  You should receive a recycling bin and you can rent their trash bin for about $3 per month.  We bought our own.  Because we recycle, we only need one trash can.  Trash pick up is on Fridays, except for holiday weeks - then it is on Saturday.

The HRAA does have a welcome packet, so if you move in, let us know when and Joy Neff, Membership Coordinator, will make sure you get a packet.

I think you are saying, though, that somewhere on this site there should be a welcome section that outlines all of this.  Thank you, good idea.

Oh, by the way, we cannot vote for another water company because this one is privately owned.  Done deal for years and bad decision when the neighborhood began.  We have, however, been "voting" in a way for years with meetings, petitions, PUCO hearings, on and on.  Some moved out, some chose to conserve and wait for a WISE solution.

I look forward to meeting you.  Join us at our monthly meetings held the first Thursday of every month at the Blendon Township complex on Hempstead Road - Senior Center, 6330 Hempstead.  7 p.m.  See you soon and welcome.
