TWC has increased both the cost of service and the rental modem considerably.
I wanted to share what you can do about it. Below information is for Internet Only, no cable or phone bundles.
TWC Internet is now $45 (from $36), plus $5.95 cable modem rental. That's $50.95 a month. Most residents only payed around $30-$35 (depending if they owned their modem of not)
1) You can purchase your own cable modem, and avoid the rental fee.
- a good choice is the Motorola SURFboard SB6121, very easy to install
- I purchased my modem for $55, which was a wash at month 10. Also much more reliable than the rented modem.
2) You can switch service to WOW internet service for $30.
- when you call for the install, just state that you will only go with WOW if they waive the one time installation fee of $50. They will, and you will only pay $30 per month (15 mbps) for the first 12 months.
3) If you call to cancel with TWC, they will offer a reduced price IF you agree to a contract, unless you are already in a contract. Keep in mind, the Early Termination Fee is $175 during that contract.
I'm not trying to advetise for either service, but the rates have gotten out of hand. WOW is newer in town, with the same speeds of TWC. I only have internet, so the bundle prices may vary.
If you have questions or need help setting up a modem, if you choose to buy your own, please reply. I will help out any way I can. All you do is plug it in, and call TWC or WOW and give them the numbers on the back of the modem. It's really easy.
