Block Watch/Street Reps - Differences and Duties

Block Watch is for Everyone

Block Watch is something we all should be doing to help our neighbors and the community. Remember what it is and what it is not. It is knowing your neighbors or at least who belongs and who doesn't; it is being alert to your surroundings; it is making sure your home and property are secure, clear of litter, well-lit, and your shrubs are trimmed; and it is reporting suspicious or criminal activity appropriately.

It is not being a detective, police officer, or vigilante; it is not being in your neighbor's hip pocket; and it is not time consuming.

Street Reps - Block Watch and More

Street Reps do all of the above and a little more. They are expected to:

a) stay informed of the criminal activity affecting the neighborhood, preferably by checking our website weekly

b) deliver the HRAA newsletter, The Herald,  on their assigned street when possible

c) be the liaison for matters regarding their street

d) handle issues and information with sensitivity and confidentiality

e) communicate reports and issues to the Block Watch Coordinator that are relevant to the good of the neighborhood

f) adhere to the By-Laws of the HRAA

g) though not required, it helps if they are a paid member of the HRAA to show their support

We Need More Street Reps

We need more Street Reps.  Ideally, we should have at least two reps for streets with 20 or more homes.
