Huber Ridge Area

There was a letter in the News & Public Opinion last night that was against the Walmart. If you didn't read it, here's the link:

There are 428 who already joined, and I think that after they read the letter, many more will do that, too. I don't know if it will make a difference, but at least they'll see we aren't happy.

You know, I'm sort of undecided on the WalMart thing.  We used to have a K-Mart right here in Blendon Township and it was closed for lack of sales.  I have to admit I miss it and the convenience of it.  Remember Hills where Kohl's used to be....yeah, I know, what a dump, but it was still a discounter and that left this area too for lack luster sales.  I'm just wondering if this end of Westerville/Blendon Twp will even support this store in terms of consumership because this area doesn't exactly have a good track record for supporting large discounters or even large department stores.  I really miss Lazarus too......sigh.....I digress.  Anyway, we seem to financially support the smaller discounters (Deals, Family Dollar, Odd/Big Lots...can I include Ollie's and Dollar General?) but not so much the big ones....could it be we're more closet Wal Mart / large discount shoppers but in someone else's neighborhood?? Somebody's supporting Wal Mart, it sure is thriving!

I agree Carolyn, I miss K-Mart as well, but as I see it, K-Mart is different than Wal-Mart.  And it was in what I thought to be a great location.  Must not have been great in other's eyes; too bad it failed.  I doubt Wal-Mart would have met with any resistance had they opted for the former K-Mart location, but they did not; we have Iron Pony there and apparently they are doing well.

You made another interesting point when you noted that maybe some are closet Wal-Mart shoppers.  That could be true, but I suspect we can be sure of this - Wal-Mart is coming, ready or not.

One friend told me she has no problem with Wal-Mart coming because it is better than some other establishments that could take up residence there.  When I think about other possibilities, I concur with my friend and try to forget the Morse Road Wal-Mart.
