Hi, Neighbors.

Please check your bills to see if you are paying for in-house gas line coverage unnecessarily.  If I recall correctly, customers have been encouraged to buy coverage for gas lines to the street and in the home.  As I read the Columbus Gas website, it appears to me this is no longer the case. The following was taken from the Columbia Gas website June 13, 2011:  http://www.columbiagasohio.com/en/doing-more-for-you/improvement-projects.aspx

Customer Service Line Responsibility

Customers no longer are subject to repairs that can individually run into the thousands of dollars. Columbia has assumed responsibility for the maintenance and replacement of customer service lines for its more than one million customers across the state.

Columbia Gas does not control the cost of the delivered product—natural gas. By law, Columbia and other utilities cannot profit from the sale of natural gas. Columbia's revenues come from a service and delivery charge approved by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO).

  • Columbia offers a comprehensive energy conservation plan that's intended to help customers save up to 1% of their natural gas consumption—which would save Ohio consumers in excess of $100 million over the life of the program.
  • This energy conservation program is available to all residential and commercial customers using less than 300 Mcf per year—which means nearly 98 percent of Columbia’s customers qualify.

Thanks for the info, Pam. I need to read my bills more carefully!
