Thank you for your response, Pam.
I too, used to think that if we maintained our home that others would follow...but that has not been true. I do understand however, that often times people do not have the means financially to update their homes. This would explain many lack of updates such windows, siding, pavement concerns...etc. I find that lawn care is not one of those things that should be excused. It cost next to nothing to spruce up your lawn. So many of the lawns are overlooked in our neighborhood. This stands true for the obvious Huber Homes but also for homeowners. The house next to me has been vacant for over 2 years now (The two houses behind us are also vacant...one has been empty the ENTIRE 10 years we have lived here.). We know that the empty houses around us will pose another challenge for us when selling our home. Although Huber Homes does come out to cut the grass, I have been over countless times this year to clean up that lawn. I have edged the lawn, pulled all of the weeds, cleaned up debris, trimmed the bushes...amongst many other tasks. I have even been stopped and thanked by other neighbors. It is not our responsibility to do things like this and I realize that I should not expect others to maintain homes that they do not live in, but it would be nice to see others in our community pitch in a little more.
I have expressed concern before regarding an issue I have with the Huber Homes in the fact that the homes look less than appealing due to the lack of window treatments. Is there anyway that we can push for a requirement for all homes to have window treatments? Window treatments would need to be defined (to exclude sheets, blankets...etc). It would at least give the illusion that the homes are maintained. I would imagine that it would also cut down on crime because thieves would think that the homes are occupied. I have seen other communities make this a requirement. Not sure how one goes about doing this but I think our community would benefit from this aesthetic change if enforced.
