The condition of our neighborhoo

Posted in: Huber Ridge Area
I went to the Q & A meeting last night - very interesting. We were told several times that the trustees did not have the authority to enforce things such as homeowners taking care of their sidewalks etc.

Well, I contacted the county this morning and this is not true. They not only have the authority but are obligated by law to keep the sidewalks repaired and pass the cost to the homeowners on their property taxes.

We need change - big change!

I would encourage everyone to attend at least one trustee meeting. What a joke - two that I attended Bill Bates fell asleep - yes asleep!!! during the meeting.

Yes, We Need Change

Thanks Mary, for getting involved, checking things out, and informing others. THAT is one change I would like to see - in addition to others - residents who care, communicate, and get involved.

We tried to encourage residents to come to the Q&A just so they could make very educated decisions about who runs our township.

Sidewalks are one of many issues. As you know, we did not get to all the questions. Mr. Flaherty's idea of town meetings is good - but only as good as people are willing to attend. I know I will attend.

Our biggest issue is the water company; it is killing the neighborhood. People move for different reasons. I know several people who have moved or are hoping to move because of the water company. They usually list other reasons, but they breathe a sigh of relief because they are rid of the EXTORTION from this company. And I have said it before, the PUCO allows it. We really do have to unite and say enough is enough.

I have petitions for residents to sign and for those who are willing to go door to door for signatures - one for the PUCO and one for Governor Strickland. I believe we have to go right to the top to stop this monopoly; this extortion.

Is there any trustee who will help us?

I agree

I would agree that the water is an issue but the sidewalks are actually dangerous! The lady down the street was walking her dog and fell and broke her wrist. According to the county the township has a legal obligation to repair them and they could be pulled into a lawsuit.

the sidewalks shouldn't even be a discussion - just fix them - put it on the taxes - like every other area does - and move on.

Water and Sidewalks

Pam, I would be more than happy to help with petitions. I have posted in the past that I rented a nice little house on Dempsey but the landlord failed to advise me of the water costs even after asking. (Probably not his fault, the tentant before me was an elderly gentleman, I moved in with three daughters and a dog!) Regardless, I was not able to stay in the house due to the high cost of the water bills. And they definitely don't work with you. When I would go to the Sunoco station on Rt3&Paris to pay the bill the attendent always said people complained about the water and several had to move because of it. I was lucky enough to get a spot in the Blendon Square Townhomes (which are very nicely kept -but we are very crowded) so I could keep my girls in thier respective schools. Please contact me about the petitions. As for the sidewalks, they are in dire need of repair. Just walking my granddaughter down to the park is a chore (can someone trim that darn tree back?) and if I decide to take her a little further in to the neighborhood I have to lift the stroller over the bumps. I have learned not to do it after dusk for fear of tripping and hurting an ankle. At least some of the corners are being repaired for handicap purposes but it goes much further than that. I agree it is time for a change and if I may put in my two cents, I have known Jim Welch for several years and I believe he would be a great trustee replacement/addition. He honestly cares about the area, worked very hard on the water increase along with other behind the scenes activities. He is an all around good guy. Now I'll get off my soap box!
