The condition of our neighborhoo

Great! Lets get moving!!

I'm not really sure why for the last year all we've been hearing is that the sidewalk expense could not be passed on to the homeowners because we are a township - but putting that aside...

Now that everyone's in agreement that is can be done let's get moving!!

-We have many unsafe sidewalks that have been in this condition for years which is unacceptable.
-One elderly tax payer has already fallen and broken her wrist while walking her dog - let's not have a repeat.
-the homeowners are legally responsible for maintaining these and aren't
-the Township has a legal obligation to fix these under these conditions and the expense can be passed onto the negligent homeowner.
-the weather is about the change so our window of opportunity is limited so we need to get moving - NOW.

Jerry, let me know what I can do. I'll call and arrange getting estimates etc. but we need this done before the weather changes and ice make the situation even worse.

Thank you for agreeing that there indeed is a solution. When can we get started?

Jerry, by the way...

What can we do about residents who rake their leave onto the curb (rather an mulching or bagging this) so they get washed down the sewers? According to the water company this is a huge expense.

Jerry, by the way

We have had limited problems with residents in the past that have raked their leaves to the curb expecting the Township to pick them up. Usually we find that they are new to the community. Our Road Superintendent, John Giamarco, has been the one who notified them that they must bag the leaves and have them picked-up. Now we have a laison officer that will, most likely, share that responsibility with Mr. Giamarco. We notify them as soon as they are noticed in an effort to prevent them from entering the storm sewer system. I am fully aware of the problems with leaves in the drains. We pay, not the water company, over $300.00 to have a truck with a ''water jet'' to unclog the drains. Sometimes our road crew can unclog the drain, but not always. The storm sewers are our responsibility. The sanitary sewers are the water company's responsibility. Most of our drain pipes will eventually carry away the leaves if the rate of drop allows for a sufficient velocity in the water flow. Where we have a problem is when the drain pipe is damaged at the exit end or there are roots in the system or other debris (toys, auto parts, trash, etc.) which has impeded the flow. I recall an occasion when we pulled an automobile rear axel out of one of the drain drops. It amazed us all. Point is, we try to catch those persons as quickly as possible in order to prevent any expense attached to the the unclogging of our storm sewer system.

Great! Lets get moving.

I will have the issue of sidewalk repair placed on the agenda for the next meeting. It is most likely that the Board members may want time to discuss this in depth and explore various scenarios, approaches, notifications, etc. An issue like this one is like an old Buick I once had. It looked good, however, when I started it down the road, something usually broke or fell off. I developed most of my automotive mechanical skills on that old Buick.
