Hi chorvath,

Unfortunately, even folks on bicycles think they're supposed to ride on sidewalks. Unless you're younger than 18, you shouldn't ride on the sidewalk. You are considered a "vehicle," and are to ride on the street and obey the same traffic laws as any other vehicle (e.g. stop at stop signs, signal turns, etc.). I always considered Huber Ridge a safe enough neighborhood to allow my son to ride on the street, with caution and a helmet, when he was still in elementary school. Of course, Dempsey was off limits, and I don't even ride on Westerville Road!

Hi, Lori.

Thought you may want to know that riding on sidewalks does not relate to age.  Ohio Revised Code defines the following:

Bicycle: Every device (other than a tricycle designed solely for use a s a play vehicle by a child) propelled solely by human power and having either two tandem wheels, or one wheel in the front and two wheels in the rear, any of which measures more than 14 inches in diameter.

4511.711 Driving On a Sidewalk - Bicycles are the only vehicles allowed on sidewalks: local authorities may prohibit but not require bicycle riding on sidewalks. (See also 4511.07 and 4511.431.)

My source of information came from www.miamivalleytrails.org/law.htm.

There are many other helpful laws on that site.

Warm Regards,

Pam Clegg, i.e, "Bambi"  - please call me Pam though.  Neighborhood link would not let me change my user name to my real name.  Had I known at the time that Bambi (a special mom name) would show up, I would have never used it.  Oh well, hindsight.
