Am I the only one who thinks the new driveway from Dempsey into the Glengary shopping center is horribly planned out and extremely dangerous?  When you enter the center via that route, the drive is so steep that by the time you get to the top of the hill, you are aimed straight up at the clouds.  If there were someone crossing that street at that point, you would not be able to see them.  We left Carsonie's last night out that drive and there was a young couple walking North on that service road toward Dempsey.  Another car came in the drive toward the couple and I had to turn around to make sure the couple was safe.  Not to mention, how slick it's going to be when the roads get icy.  I certainly hope that's not the final product.

Actually there was just such a discussion at the last HRAA general meeting on Thursday January 5th, just a few days befor your posting.  I have sent an email to my contact at ODOT with whom I had contact when the Westerville Road project had begun and the stretch in front of Glengary Plaza / Dempsey Road was all torn up.  They had always been pretty responsive so I will certainly post their response when I hear back from them.

I am in agreement with the bad decision of the entrance to Glengary shopping center. This will cause more headaches than ever. Also the entrance on Brazzaville needs to be repaired permanantly. I know that this 385 foot stretch is part of Franklin County and is on the short list, but for 20 years +? If Blendon Twp. can be as far as Morse Rd. This can be taken care of also. I know it will never happen, but just bring it up about getting this piece in our jurisdiction. No more holes 1 foot deep causing bent rims.

I did get a response from ODOT (see below).  The response is pretty much what I expected.  Afterall, this is private property we are talking about and ODOT simply replaced what they had removed to accomplish the road construction.  In order to make it more level it would have involved removing more dirt from under parking lot that wasn't impacted.  I'm not surprised that there is no further plans to work on that entrance by ODOT but I do have to tell you that at the trustee meeting 2 weeks ago another resident brought up this issue before the board and Bryan Rhoads (BT Maintenance Code director) had agreed to contact the plaza owner who is also responsible for some of those issues at the Brazaville entrance to the shopping center as well.  No update on this issue at last night's trustee meeting from Bryan (there is a LOT going on with the township right now!).  I will check with him to see if he's been able to speak with the plaza owner yet.

Ms. Cordray,

We have heard some feedback on the Glengary entrance because it appears steeper than it was prior to construction. ODOT rebuilt the driveway the same way as before, but the difference people are noticing is that Dempsey Road was lowered to realign with Emrick. Because Dempsey is lower, the driveway to the shopping plaza is less gradual.

The project manager did replace the stop sign at the bottom of the driveway before cars exit onto Dempsey. We also painted a line down the middle to help drivers stay on the correct side of the driveway. There are not any further plans for the driveway.

Please don’t hesitate to follow up with any additional questions or concerns.

Thanks,

Breanna

Subject: Rte 3 project question

Breanna,
As you may remember we corresponded back when work was being done on Rte 3 (Westerville Road) and Dempsey Rd just outside of my neighborhood.  A few of the neighbors have had questions regarding the entrance from Dempsey into Glengary Plaza.  As a result of the widening of Dempsey Road it seems that entrance way is quite a bit more steep than it was before the construction.  Do you know or could you ask the project manager if there are any plans to make it less steep.  There was quite a discussion at our last association meeting and soon after it a post appeared in the discussion section of our website.
