Pam, I am interested in hearing your conservation tips my electric bill was almost 300.00 and we live in the dark as it is......and I haven't needed to run the AC much because sp far we have been blessed, however, I hear we are in for high temps tomorrow and beyond!

Wow, 300.00 is incredible, and I cannot help thinking that something must be wrong.  Couple of factors about our usage;

Our house is 1400 square feet, we use some CFL lighting; not all

We use ceiling fans to cool

We use fan in the window unless the house temp gets to 85 or higher, then air - but not if our kwh usage is close to 700 for the month.  In that case, we sweat it out.

We use a gas dryer; electric stove.

Our fridge uses 669 kwh per year

When we use the heat, we keep the temp at 67

Do not use tv much and have an old one.

We could do better by getting all cfls - will in time.

We light up at night with cfls and solar path lights.

hmm, not sure what else to share about electric conservation.

Do you have an older refrigerator in your garage? Do you have a freezer in your garage?

Both use tremendous amounts of energy.  Keep A/C at 78 if possible.  I suspect you have other drains on your electric. You might consider an energy audit. I use a lot of electricity and keep my A/C lower because of asthma and my bill was $200.00. 

P.S.  I meant to include this - when we run the air, we keep the house temp above 80 degrees.  Today it is 83 degrees
