Oh I've also considered drilling a well. Anyone know if there's any ordinance stopping me from doing so? I just contacted Franklin Co...If I hear back I will let you all know.

I asked: Is there any ordinance in place stopping me from drilling a well to provide water to my house?

They said: You should check with the city Building Department.  I am not aware of any ordinances.  You will need to get a permit from the Franklin County Health Department.   They have siting requirements that will need to be met.

Wells in your area are obtaining water from a shallow sand and gravel formation within the first 50 feet.  The shale bedrock, which is below the sand and gravel does not yield any water.  The wells that supply your subdivision are only 38 and 39 feet deep.   I have a few records of wells being attempted along Dempsey that did not encounter any water.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Very interesting, I guess that means no wells, which I would assume for Huber Ridge.  Thank you, neighbor!

What we have done to combat the high water rates is conserve.  And we always flush, not to be crude.  We shower, wash clothes, clean the home, etc. but we limit our usage when we shower, etc.

I'm not sure why you said "I guess that means no wells"...

What the email response explained is that we CAN attempt a well (with additional permits etc), but that there hasn't been much success with them in our area. It certainly may be worth trying though. If we continue to live in Huber Ridge I may look into this further. Unfortunately it doesn't solve the high cost of sewer,
